ARISTOTLE UNIVERSITY OF THESSALONIKI

The Aristotle University of Thessaloniki is the largest university in Greece. The University Campus comprises 9 Faculties organized into 39 Schools, as well as 3 independent Schools: Faculty of Theology, Faculty of Sciences, Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Dentistry, Faculty of fine arts, Faculty of Philosophy, Faculty of Economics and Political Sciences, Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Education, Faculty of Agriculture, Faculty of Forestry and Natural Environment, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine.
The state provides a set of administrative, financial and other services to students so as to facilitate their studies. These services include scholarships, catering and accommodation (for students with low family income), health care, counseling and psychological support, access to the Internet, lower fares for transportation, etc. The financial provisions include free textbooks to all students, and access to university libraries, while administrative provisions are mainly related to a deferral of military service for male students due to studies.
Moreover, A.U.Th. provides information and advice on undergraduate and postgraduate studies in Greece and abroad, and on career issues.
The Aristotle University of Thessaloniki was actively involved in the first phase of the ERASMUS Programme and the other European Educational Programmes (TEMPUS, LINGUA, JEAN MONNET etc.). The ERASMUS Programme is the action of the SOCRATES Programme, that concerns European cooperation in higher education. More specifically, it includes organized student exchange for accredited periods of study, the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS), mobility and exchange of teaching staff, language training of students, etc.
The School of Agriculture until 2002, has awarded 9,350 degrees, 450 MSc degrees and 180 Doctoral degrees. Its graduates have gone on to work for the Ministry of Agriculture and other public services and organizations, making a great contribution to the rapid progress of Greek agriculture in the postwar period. At the same time, an ever-increasing number of graduates are offering their services in the private sector, while many others are making remarkable contribution in educational and research institutions abroad.
The School of Agriculture consists of seven Departments. Each of them covers a specific scientific field and offers a specialized degree in each particular field. The seven Departments of the School along with their laboratories are as follows: Department of Animal Production (AP), Department of Agricultural Economics (AE), Department of Hydraulics, Soil Science and Agricultural Engineering (HSAE), Department of Food Science and Technology (FST), Department of Field Crops and Ecology (FCE), Department of Horticulture and Viticulture (HV), Department of Plant Protection (PP)
