Healthcare Biotechnology

 

Healthcare Biotechnology represents the complex of modern biological approaches in the field of Healthcare research and industry. 

Biotechnology in the modern world is one of the most rapidly developing field. Healthcare Biotechnology methods are used primarily in pharmaceutical industry and modern clinical diagnostics. 

The Healthcare Biotechnology subprogramme covers the main topics of the field with the     emphasis on applied science aspect. The selection of the subprogramme is possible in the frames of “Applied Biosciences and Biotechnology” bachelor programme from semester 5.The subprogramme includes 7 compulsury and 2 optinal modules. The compulsory modules are: Human Biology and Pathology, Immunology, Cell Signalling, Biological Basis of Disease, Introduction to Laboratory Biomedicine, Medical Microbiology and Virology, Pharmacology. The optional modules include Exercise Physiology, Principles of Healthcare Management.

During semester 7 students are offered to undergo eight-week industrial placement in order to get acquainted with the biotechnology methods in real life and also to improve transferable  and practical skills. Students can also replace industrial placement credits with the appropriate free credits. In semester 8 students should execute the scientific project.

 

Employment perspectives

The subprogramme is planned for graduates intending to develop their careers in scientific-research institutions, clinical and diagnostic laboratories, analytical services, pharmacological and pharmaceutical companies, etc.
