Dublin Institute of Tecnology

Dublin Institute of Technology (DIT) is one of Ireland's largest, and certainly most diverse, 'third-level' institutions where remarkably wide-ranging experiences and opportunities are combined with the human scale of its large number of sites located across the heart of Dublin.
With a history stretching back over one hundred and twenty years, Dublin Institute of Technology has been recognised as a pioneer in technological higher education. The Institute has proven itself to be one of the most popular institutions of higher education in the country.  The reasons for DIT’s continued pulling power include excellent student support facilities, an ethos that encourages active learning and dynamic course content, and its tradition of academic excellence alongside professional relevance.
With over 300 different programmes from Apprenticeship right through to Postgraduate level, the variety of programmes offered by the Institute is another attractive feature. From Accounting to Architecture to Tourism and Telecommunications, whatever your interests, there is a programme to suit you.  DIT also offers a diverse range of specialised programmes, which maximise students choices in a rapidly changing world – in some cases these programmes are unique to DIT or the Institute is one of a small number of providers.
In response to ever-changing market demands, DIT consistently develops and introduces new programmes and exciting initiatives.  For example, this academic year saw the graduation of the first ever cohort of students from DIT’s BSc in Transport Technology and BSc in Pharmaceutical Technology as well as the graduation of the first cohort of Food Technology degree students.
Continuing this mission of responding proactively to the changing requirements of industry, the professions and students alike, DIT is introducing a number of new programmes for 2004 including  a BSc in Business Management; a three-year BSc in Accounting & Finance.  This year, for the first time ever in Ireland, it will also be possible to study wines at degree level with a specialism in Wines and Oenology on offer as part of DIT’s BA Programme in Culinary Arts.
Across all of its programmes, DIT is renowned for the applied nature of teaching and learning.  Strong links and regular interaction with industry and the professions allow the Institute to base its teaching on the latest global trends and needs.  It keeps a close eye on job market trends and encourages input from industry partners regarding the design and development of programmes.  This close link with the market place is further strengthened through industry training and career placement for students during the majority of study options.
DIT’s programmes are career-focused, and indeed the Institute’s Careers Service assists students with their career plans from the beginning of their studies.  Because of the standard of the course work, graduates find themselves highly regarded by employers and the percentage of DIT graduates entering into employment directly on completion of their programme is consistently higher than the national average.
